Bowen Therapy
What is Bowen Therapy and how does it work?
Bowtech, the original Bowen Technique, is a gentle form
of body work where subtle moves are performed over the
muscles and connective tissue sending messages deep
into the body, retrieving cellular memory of a preferred
relaxed, balanced way of wellbeing. Results can be remarkable,
even from the first session; often only a few sessions
are needed to correct the presenting problem.
There are frequent but essential pauses throughout the
session that allow the body time to respond and begin
the healing process. The practitioner can target a specific
problem or address the body as a whole.
The technique addresses not only the musculoskeletal
framework, but also the fascia, nerves and internal
organs. The body’s integrated response improves circulation
and lymphatic drainage and aids the assimilation of
nutrients and elimination of toxins.
Can the Bowen Technique help me?
The original Bowen Technique is very gentle and is considered
appropriate for anyone from pregnant women to newborn
babies, the frail and the elderly. It can assist recovery
from many conditions, from traumatic injury to chronic
illness, depending upon each individual’s capacity to
heal. No adverse side effects have been reported.
The technique should be considered for:
-
Back pain and sciatica
-
Digestive and bowel problems
-
Earache, ear infections and migraines
- Fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome
-
Knee and hamstring problems
-
Menstrual and hormonal irregularities
-
Neck/shoulder problems
-
Groin pain
-
Respiratory problems and hay fever
-
RSI, carpal tunnel syndrome and tennis elbow
-
Sports and accident injuries
- Jaw alignment
- Babies and children
What
can I expect from a Bowen Treatment?
After
you relax on the massage table, the practitioner starts
by doing several moves then steps away from the client's
body, giving the body time to absorb and integrate the
moves and start to reset and heal itself. The treatment
continues like this for the duration. Sensations may
be felt during and after the session, these may include
tingling, heat, cold, heaviness or lightness. These
sensations are nothing to worry about - they are actually
a great indicator that healing is occurring.
*Generally a difference
is felt after the first treatment.
*Treatments are for 1 hour.
*To receive the maximum benefit from Bowen Therapy,
3 treatments are recommended over 3 weeks.
*New clients- please ask about our 3 session starter
pack rates.
*If you have a 'flare up' or 're-injure' it is beneficial
to come for a treatment as soon as possible.
*Existing clients, see us as required – just listen
to your body!
Thomas Bowen (1916 - 1982)
The founder of the Bowen
Technique
The Bowen Technique was developed in the 1950s by the
late Tom Bowen from Geelong, Australia. Tom became a
celebrated therapist, regularly treating more than 13,000
patients each year, with a reported 90% success rate.
In 1974, he invited Oswald Rentsch and his wife Elaine
to study with him and document his work. Honouring their
promise to Tom they began to teach the Technique.
Dedicated to preserving the technique and ensuring that
it is taught in its original form, they founded the
Bowen Therapy Academy of Australia in 1987. Since then,
well over 18,000 therapists worldwide have completed
Bowen training. All Bowen training is based on Bowtech,
the original Bowen Technique, which introduced and continues
to deliver the Bowen Technique to the world.
